MECH 223 Rail Hauler Project
In MECH 223, our team designed, prototyped, and built a load-carrying rail vehicle from concept to fabrication. I set up a self-hosted SVN server to host all our CAD files with centralized version control to prevent merge conflicts. The final design was optimized for efficiency and reliability through a complete design–build–test cycle.
What
- Designed a load-carrying rail vehicle (model train) capable of transporting a payload across a track
- Worked in a team to take the project from concept through fabrication within course deadlines
How
- Modeled the full mechanical system in CAD and produced fabrication drawings
- Manufactured parts using machining, laser cutting, and 3D printing
- Set up a self-hosted SVN server for centralized CAD version control across the team
Results
- Delivered a fully functional vehicle meeting all load and performance targets
- Demonstrated a complete design–build–test cycle execution
