APSC 101 Claw Project

In APSC 101, an introductory engineering course, our team designed and built an Arduino-controlled claw to pick up and place objects in a designated area. I was responsible for the mechanical design and fabrication of one of our two claws, and contributed to the Arduino programming.

What

  • Designed and built a motorized claw capable of picking up and placing objects autonomously
  • Handled mechanical design and complete fabrication of one of the team's two claws

How

  • Created the mechanical design in CAD and manufactured parts
  • Programmed claw control logic in C on an Arduino microcontroller
  • Iterated on the gripper mechanism through physical testing

Results

  • Successfully picked up and placed objects in the designated area during the course demonstration
  • Gained foundational experience in the full design–build–test engineering cycle
